1 Tuesday, Sept. 17th, Environments shape relationships between characters and their identities. Do Now Please write your homework in your agenda. Then complete the Anticipation Activity.

2 Connection to Literature
Please copy and respond to the following on loose leaf paper. What do seventh graders do to try to impress each other? Write a short response of 3-5 sentences to share some actions that you notice.

Then open to the story, “Seventh Grade” on page 20 in your literature textbook. Complete Setting box on worksheet. (setting is time and place) and Character Chart

5 Exposition The exposition of the story includes the characters and setting. What is the setting? (time and place) Who are the main characters?

1. What was the main reason that Victor wanted to take French? 2. What happened when Victor told Mr. Bueller that he spoke French? 3. Why does Victor go to the library? What is he going to do and why?

12 Comprehension Check 1. Theresa was taking it.
2. Mr. Bueller started talking to him in French. 3. He goes to the library to borrow French textbooks so that he can learn French. He wants to be able to help Teresa and live up to her impression of him. Think Critically: 4. Mr. Bueller is sympathetic and understands the reason that Victor was faking. Possibly he had done something similar. Also he knows that Victor will have to live up to his bluff now.

13 Critical Thinking The French teach Mr.Bueller, realizes that Victor is faking his knowledge of French. Why do you think he keeps the truth to himself?

14 Theme What is theme? Theme is the message or lesson about life that the author wishes to convey to the reader.

15 Theme A message or lesson about life that the author wishes to convey to the reader. Possible themes for “Seventh Grade” Don’t lie to impress others. Be yourself. Everyday is a new day to start again, and change things. You can become a better person. Sometimes when you make a mistake, you can try to fix it and learn from it. Sometimes we have to work hard for what we want. Finding ourselves is a process of trial and error.
