1 Personal Liberties and the Unity of the Faith
Unity of the faith requires us to accept one another’s differences in areas where God allows us to have them, while being single minded in our doctrine and moral practices. Romans 14 Jude 3

2 This is objective faith that is the same for every saint.
Jude 3 exhorts us to contend for THE FAITH that was “once for all delivered.” This is objective faith that is the same for every saint. It is what we all obey (Acts 6:7; Romans 1:5) It is what we must continue in (Acts 14:22; 1 Cor. 16:13; 2 Cor. 13:5) We are to strive together (as one) for it! (Philippians 1:27) There is no variation. We are one because it is one! (Eph. 4:3-6)

3 Romans 14 addresses personal beliefs which vary from one saint to the next.
It deals with practices that are allowed but not required. Individual Application (singular personal pronouns, Romans 14:1-12) Pleasing the Lord is paramount (14:4-6) Textual Examples: Eating meat & keeping days Modern Examples: Training children (Ephesians 6:4) Worship attire (James 2:2)

4 Romans 14 does not address the collective activity of the church.
Romans 14 cannot possibly apply to the corporate work or action of the church such as… A church supporting a preacher (Phil. 4:15-17) Certain aspects of the Lord’s Supper (1 Cor. 11:20-22, 34) Confusing worship (1 Cor. 14:26ff.)

5 Issues of the Faith that won’t fit in Romans 14
Forbidding marriage or foods (1 Tim. 4:1-3) Materialism (1 Tim. 6:10) Sloth or laziness(1 Tim. 5:8; 2 Thess. 3:6, 11) Judging one another’s sins (Rom. 14:13; 1 Cor. 5:11-13) Teaching false doctrine (Rom. 16:17-18)
