End of Year Expectations:
Reading Writing Mathematics

Reading at home Reading Record needs to be taken home every day and brought back each morning. Children should be writing in their reading record books. Children should be reading daily for AT LEAST 10 minutes. We can only change reading books IF they are signed/commented by parents. Parents will be given a list of questions which they can use when children are reading to them in due course. Local library on Grove Road.

Homework Handed out each Thursday To be handed in by following Tuesday If children do not hand in homework, they will be required to complete it at lunchtime. Children’s homework will be marked in class prior to the new homework being set. Please keep a folder at home for children’s marked homework as this can be used for revision as the year goes on.

Times tables Children are expected to know their 12 by 12 times tables in Year 4. Towards the end of this year, children in Year 4 will all be taking a compulsory Times Table check, which will consist of 25 multiplication questions up to 12 x 12. Children are expected to answer questions within 5 seconds. Children will have weekly opportunities to practise using this format in class, and there are also a number of websites that can be used at home to support both the learning of times tables, and using the times table check format. For their work in class, it is also important that children are familiar with corresponding division facts in addition to times table knowledge.
