3. Amnesty Club Friday Lunch A14, all welcome

Do you have a Teddy you could donate for a child in poverty, a refugee or living in a child living in war zone?
There are children around the world today who have suffered terrible trauma and need their childhoods back.
Help to give a child comfort with this simple act by donating a teddy.

4. Languages Week
During this week in school, there will be various international menus in the dining room. Today is Italian Day - Buon Appetito! Languages Quiz of the week – In your form box there is a quiz. You have until Friday to complete the quiz. Just leave it in your form box and front of house will collect it! Walton-le-Dale Great British (European) Bake Off Please consider entering this competition to celebrate European Day of Languages and to support MacMillan Cancer Support. We are asking students to get creative in the kitchen and bake and decorate a foreign themed cake. Bake your creation at home and bring to school on Friday 27th September. Leave your cake in D3 before or during morning registration. Cakes will be judged on appearance and prizes awarded. All cakes will be sliced and sold to staff and students in the dining room at break time. Students - please support us by bringing in some change to purchase a slice of cake at break. All monies raised in support of MacMillan cancer support.

Wow! Look how committed your teachers are to you. They provide approximately 47 hours of extra-curricular activities per week. Show your commitment to them – get involved!

10. Have you had your eyes tested?
It is important to have your eyes tested regularly at least every 2 years to ensure your eyes stay healthy. Eyes tests ensure that if any problems are found they are treated early Eye tests are free for anyone under the age of 16, so if you are struggling to see properly tell your parents or a teacher so we can help you to make an appointment with an optician.

12. What can you do to keep your eyes healthy?
Get your eyes tested – Every two years
Eat a rainbow - eating a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables helps to ensure your eyes get the nutrients they need to grow healthily. Foods like tomatoes, melon, grapes and blueberries as well as fish, chicken, eggs and whole grains are packed with eye–friendly nutrients.
Cover up - it’s really important to protect your eyes from the sun. When you’re young the lens at the front of the eye is really clear so can let even more of the damaging sunlight in. Protect your eyes even on cloudy days and check that your sunglasses have a ce; uv 400 or british standard mark as this will ensure they provide the right level of uv protection.

13. What can you do to keep your eyes healthy?
Go Outdoors - research has shown that spending time outdoors, can be beneficial in helping to prevent the onset and progression of myopia (short-sightedness). So make sure you get out and get active every day.
Act on advice - make sure you follow the advice of your optician to ensure the best possible treatment outcome. It’s also important that if you wear contact lenses you follow advice on how to wear and care for your contact lenses to keep your eyes safe and comfortable.
