6 IQ VS EQ IQ-The conventional view of intelligence-is far too narrow: emotions play a far greater role in thought, decision making and individual success than is commonly acknowledged. EQ-Includes self-awareness, impulse control, persistence, zeal, motivation, empathy, social deftness-the qualities that mark people who excel, whose relationships flourish, who are the effective leaders in the workplace. EQ can be learnt at any age- whereas IQ is largely genetic and changes little from childhood.

9 EQ and Leadership 85-95% of the difference between a “good leader” and an “excellent leader” is due to emotional intelligence. (Goleman, 1998) Research in the 1990s showed that leaders with strengths in certain “soft” areas were far more effective than those without such strengths. No matter how well you do in the technical part of your work, unless you can manage yourself and your people, you are unlikely to be a good leader.
