2. In this GCSE year students will need to use the internet to study from accredited sites. The internet can be a great resource if used safely.
In school, students’ access to websites is restricted and software will alert the safeguarding team if a student attempts to access restricted material.

Appreciating that once something is posted it is out of the control of the originator.
The Police define the crime of “Malicious Communications” as an incident where someone sends a form of communication that is indecent or grossly offensive, threatening, or contains information which is false or believed to be false.  The purpose for sending it is to cause distress or anxiety to the person it is sent to. 
An offence of Malicious Communications occurs as soon as the communication is sent, and does not even have to be received by the intended person.  It is the sending and intent of the offender which counts as an offence.
Sending indecent images of anyone under 18 is an offence. Once a picture is out there, it cannot be taken back and it is very easily shared.

Discuss using the internet safely as a family
Encourage respect for others when posting or messaging
Treat passwords with care – never lend your phone
Block/delete contacts & save malicious conversations
Don’t reply/retaliate to unpleasant posts/messages
Report any potential cyberbullying – repeated and targeted harrassment

9. Parents/carers - notice changes in behaviour patterns like deleting internet history or using the laptop/computer in private?
Use parental control filters on home broadband and mobile devices
Understand the smartphone you’ve given your child
Keep phone/tablets/laptops out of your child’s room at night
Set all privacy settings to the highest and switch off location services
