4 Importance of Internships
Provides students experience in their community, exploring something they are interested in. Students receive consistent feedback from a trusted adult regarding their work ethic and conduct in a real-world setting. Modern internships are designed to teach young people general work skills, not just the specific skills of their mentor.

5 City High Internship Goals:
a) Teach students workplace and academic skills through project-based learning in a real-world context b) Provide local organizations with a well-supported intern who provides a modest return on investment to establish a relationship of reciprocity c) Foster students’ personal growth and understanding of the professional world

6 Habits of Heart and Mind
ACTION: take initiative, devise and adjust plans, motivate classmates, take responsibility EVIDENCE: cite evidence, collect and analyze data, consider sources EXPRESSION: communicate clearly, make compelling presentations, consider audience INQUIRY: be curious, ask questions, seek new levels of understanding PERSPECTIVE: incorporate other viewpoints into your own thinking, change your mind REFLECTION: know how you learn and why you think the way you do

11 Logistics and Legal Limitations

12 Caveat: You can be FIRED from an Internship
Internships can be changed under the following circumstances:  1. The internship is unsafe in any way  2. There is a mismatch between mentor and mentee that impedes learning  If either of this occurs, the Intern needs to schedule a meeting with the Internship Coordinator, and Mentor if it’s appropriate. A student may be fired if the they are not meeting the requirements of the internship, even after conversations and redirections from the mentor/supervisor AND a conversation with Alisha has been completed

13 When to Contact the Internship Coordinator
The intern is consistently tardy or absent The intern is not fulfilling their required duties The intern is being consistently disrespectful or inappropriate You have any other concerns or questions
