2. Program Overview
The University of Louisville High School Dual Credit Program offers qualified, local high school students the opportunity to earn college and high school credit simultaneously before they receive their high school diploma. Benefits of the program are to:
Develop a college transcript while in high school
Experience college curriculum and instructional methods
Shorten the amount of time required to complete a college degree
Save money by paying less per credit hour than a regular U of L college student
Offer high school students the amenities of a U of L college student: free TARC access, free access to U of L’s libraries, and free access to our brand new student recreation center.

3. Grades and policies
Students who enroll in the dual credit program must be fully prepared for the challenges of taking a college level course. Students will receive grades for dual credit based on the University of Louisville grading scale. Teachers communicate this grading scale to students, parents, and the school community on a regular basis. Under FERPA privacy rules, the instructor cannot communicate student progress with parents. Only the student can access his or her grades. The final grades become a part of the student’s permanent college record.

4. Transferring Credits
It is important to note that acceptance as a dual credit student does not guarantee acceptance to U of L as an undergraduate student.
Students enrolling in and completing a dual credit course will obtain a college transcript. The grade will be automatically recorded on their student record at U of L.
If the student wishes to have the credits transferred elsewhere, they must contact the Registrar’s office to request a copy of their transcript. The student should contact their prospective college or university for transfer credit guidelines.
If the student wishes to continue education at U of L, the credits will automatically appear on the student’s record.

5. Student Eligibility Math
Students enrolling in dual credit courses with U of L mathematics must have a 3.0 cum. GPA and a 3.0 GPA in their math courses. They must also satisfy one of the following criteria:
Math 109 Elementary Statistics and Math 111 College Algebra – One of the following:
Mathematics sub score on ACT- 21 or higher
Mathematics sub score on SAT- 500 or higher
Mathematics sub score on PSAT- 530 or higher
Exception: Students entering their Junior or Senior year without ACT, SAT, or PSAT scores or with scores lower than the ones listed above are eligible to take the U of L Mathematics Placement Exam if they meet the minimum GPA requirements. A score of 11 or higher will qualify the student for Math 111.

6. Student Eligibility Math 190 Precalculus – One of the following:
Mathematics sub score on ACT of 23 or higher
Mathematics sub score on SAT of 540 or higher
Mathematics sub score on PSAT 540 or higher
Earned a passing grade in Math 111
Exception: Students entering their Junior or Senior year without ACT, SAT, or
PSAT scores or with scores lower than the ones listed above are eligible to take the U of L Math Placement Exam if they meet the minimum GPA requirements. A score of 16 or higher will qualify the student for Math 190.

7. The Registration Process
A high school student may apply for dual credit only if their high school is participating in the University of Louisville’s dual credit program. Interested students should see their academic counselor for more information.

8. Checklist for dual credit registration
A dual credit representative from U of L will visit applicants’ high school to hand out and then later to collect the following important documents:
The Student/Parent Academic and Financial Policy agreement will be sent to the student in advance of application date. Review and sign with parent or guardian. Bring this document to school for the U of L dual credit representative.
A U of L dual credit representative will visit your school to help complete an online U of L non-degree application with counselor approval.
Submit official high school transcript through Parchment or high school counselor.
Standardized test scores should be sent as part of the transcript or from the testing agency; See Student Eligibility Guide for the required scores.
Students are enrolled in the course once the final student list is received from counselors, student application is complete, and student eligibility has been verified.

9. After Being Admitted
University of Louisville High School Visiting Scholars - If you meet the admission requirements listed above, you will officially be enrolled as a University of Louisville High School Visiting Scholar.
Please keep in mind that admission to this program does not ensure acceptance as a U of L Undergraduate student.
Cardinal Card - After you have been admitted and registered for your class, you may visit the Belknap campus, Houchens building to pick up your student ID (Cardinal Card). The Cardinal Card grants dual credit students the many of the amenities of a U of L student, including free rides on TARC, access to U of L libraries, and student discounts on campus and around the city. The student recreation center fees must be paid separately and directly to the center.

10. Payment of Fees: Student Responsibilities
The Dual Credit Scholarship, if awarded, will pay up to nine credit hours or two courses. If students have exhausted their scholarship or are not awarded the scholarship, they will receive an electronic bill for their course within a few days of registration. It is important for students to check their accounts because billing is sent only online.
Tuition and fees are due on, or before, the designated due date for the semester.
Payment may be made by cash, check, money order, charge card (MasterCard, Visa, or Discover), e-check, or financial aid credit.
Payments may be made online, by mail, or by use of the deposit box located in the front entrance of the Houchens Building, or at the Bursar’s Office.
Failure to fully settle financial obligations may result student holds on accounts and financial penalties.
Course tuition for Fall 2017-Spring 2018 are $54 per credit hour with no additional fees. This tuition applies to public, private, parochial, and home school students who have exhausted or were not awarded the Dual Credit Scholarship. NOTE: Distance education courses are not offered at the discounted rate. Other fees may apply.

11. Activate your accounts
A student’s user ID and student ID number are very important identifiers used by the University. If a dual credit student attends U of L as a college student in the future, these IDs will stay the same, so they should be careful not to misplace them.
An will be sent to the address provided by the student on the application. The will provide the student’s username ID, U of L identification number, and instructions for activating their account.

Once their ID and password are set up, they will be able to access their ULink, Blackboard and Cardmail accounts using the same ID and password combination.

ULink is a web portal for all U of L student and staff that offers access to:
Billing account
Campus resources
Records
Grades
Financial aid
Transcript requests
Personal information
Dual credit students will use Ulink mainly to view their bill, check their final grade (s), and request transcripts.

14. Student Accounts: Cardmail
Dual credit students are provided a U of L student account called Cardmail. All official communication will be sent to this account, despite what account they list as their personal . So students should check this account regularly!

15. Student Accounts: Blackboard
Blackboard is a web tool that allows students to access resources uploaded by their teachers, access grades, and turn in assignments or even take exams.
Dual credit teachers may or may not choose to use Blackboard. Regardless, it may be a good idea for dual credit students to visit and explore Blackboard, as many universities now use it in every classroom.
Blackboard login information is the same user id and password combination set up when the student activates their account.
