2 A little bit about me... Attended school in WVUSD (Collegewood Elementary, Suzanne Middle School, Walnut High School) B.A. in English from CSUF Masters of Science in Reading and Literacy Reading and Literacy Leadership Specialist Credential

3 Class Standards This class follows Common Core standards
Analyzing texts Text-based assignments I focus on collaboration and communication 21st century learners Partner/group work Students are encouraged to ask questions and participate in class

Informational Novels/Short Stories/Articles Poetry Speaking/Listening Syllabus is posted on Suzanne class website

5 Late Work, Absences, and Behavior
I accept late work at 50% credit until the end of each semester. Students have as many days as they were absent to make up the work. Discipline: Verbal warning Behavior notice (Students must identify their behavior and tell me how they can improve) Call home Counselor meeting (Mrs. McCarson)

6 Homework is always posted on the whiteboard, as well as on my class website
24 Book Challenge Challenge rules are posted on my class website Students must reading material of their choice to school everyday Promotes a love of reading Read with your child everyday We utilize Chromebooks on a regular basis Google Drive Google Classroom Class Routine

7 Social Emotional Learning
I have high expectations for: Responsibility Empathy Respect Effort Growth Mindset Students are expected to be good people, not just good students

8 Student Expectations There is a shift from 6th to 7th grade
Students are expected to advocate for themselves Personal responsibility Write down assignments and due dates Check their own grades with questions/concerns Catch-up on late/missing work

9 Parent Expectations Help your child become more independent
