Learning Map for Year 3: Autumn 2019 How to become a great leader?
Writing Children will be writing a variety of non fiction pieces around the Victorian theme. These include, recounts, letters, diary entries and newspaper reports. Through the book ‘I was a Rat’ – by Phillip Pullman the children will explore the characters and be using drama techniques to support their writing and understanding. Writing Children will be investigating how to use words effectively. Can you create a poem that has the desired impact on the reader? How do Advent and Epiphany show us what Christmas is REALLY about? Research using IPads, taking photos, presenting to the class and evaluating work. ICT skills- Children will learn to word process efficiently and how to display their learning on the chrome books. English Reading Children to read a variety of texts and to apply their phonics skills to their reading and make links with other reading and experiences. Swimming Outdoor games Participating in cricketing team games and developing throwing and catching skills. Computing How to become a great leader? RE PE Time to the nearest five minutes, analogue, digital clocks and clocks without conventional numbers such as Roman numerals. Measuring time in seconds. Art History & Geography Maths History We will be investigating what makes a great leader by looking at the life and times of Queen Victoria! Did she have an impact on the life of the people? How can we become great leaders too? At the end of this half term we will use what we have learnt to have our own team captain elections? What would be important to you? How would you lead the people? Science Place value in two and three digit numbers. Identifying and writing values in pounds and pence. William Morris pattern and style. Children will be learning how to print using printing ink and how they can use repeating patterns Name 2D and 3D shapes and identifying and describing their properties. Sorting these shapes using a Venn diagram. Lines of symmetry Using number facts in addition and subtraction and looking at partitioning and counting up. Animals Including Humans Working scientifically children will look at the function of skeletons in humans and other creatures, how our muscles work and identify that animals need the right amount and types of nutrition. Geography The Victorian British Empire. -”The sun never sets on the British empire” -Where in the world? Times tables facts, doubling and halving.
