BODY FLUIDS AND CIRCULATION
LYMPH

LYMPHATIC SYSTEM Lymph Lymph vessels (Lymphatics)

TISSUE FLUID The fluid in the spaces between tissue cells is called interstitial fluid or tissue fluid or extra cellular fluid. Exchange of nutrients, gases, etc., between the blood and the cells always occur through this fluid.

FORMATION OF TISSUE FLUID
The tissue fluid is formed from the blood. When blood flows under high pressure through the capillaries water and other dissolved substances are filtered out from the blood plasma to the intercellular spaces, to form the tissue fluid.

LYMPH The composition of the tissue fluid is similar to that of blood except RBC platelets and some proteins.

LYMPH An elaborate network of vessels called the lymphatic system collects this fluid and drains it back to the major veins. The fluid present in the lymphatic system is called the lymph.

LYMPH Lymph is a colourless fluid containing specialised lymphocytes which are responsible for the immune responses of the body. Lymph is also an important carrier for nutrients, hormones, etc.

LYMPH Fats are absorbed through lymph in the lacteals present in the intestinal villi.
