Appointments All students need to make an appointment at the police station. There is no drop-in. UDI's letter states that you need to meet at the police station within 7 days. This is not possible. Just make the first available appointment through the application portal. Neither the police nor the UiT can assist you in making an appointment. The exceptions are applications from a few embassies, where the police will have to assist you to make the booking. You need to make an appointment, and come to the police station to have your picture and fingerprints taken, in order to get a residence card Log on to and make a "following up"- appointment with the police in Tromsø When you meet for the appointment, you have to bring: Your letter of admission Your passport Your address in Tromsø (remember your postal code) The housing code. The police will give notice to the Tax Administration that you need a national ID number. This will be sent to you by post. Grense- og utlendingsseksjonen

Citizens from outside the EU/EEA
Residence card – maximum 10 days delivery Remember to mark your post box with your name Renewal of permit: Three months before your permit expires, you should register your application form on the Application Portal, and book an appointment. There may be several weeks waiting time. No later than one month before your permit expires you must go to the police and hand in your documents. You are entitled to work up to 20h/week, and full time during ordinary holidays The police can, and will, check the numbers of hours you are working If you work, you need to pay tax A tax deduction card is issued by the local tax office If you come from a country with a high risk of tuberculosis, the health authorities will contact you for a test, after your appointment with the police. Citizens of EU/EEA It is important to make a registration at before you meet at the police station The registration is free of charge At the end of the registration process you need to make an appointment with the police The police will not be able to help you if the registration (on internet) is missing when you meet at the police station Bring the required documents when you meet at your appointment Grense- og utlendingsseksjonen

Citizens of EU/EEA You need to bring the following documents to the police station: Your letter of admission Your passport or your ID card Your address in Tromsø (remember your postal code) Your European Health Insurance Card, or private medical insurance You will get a registration certificate from the police, if you have the necessary documents EU/EEA nationals have to meet with the Tax Administration in order to obtain a D-number or a national ID number Note: If you are planning to stay in Norway for less than 3 months, you do not have to make a registration, and you do not have to meet at the police station Grense- og utlendingsseksjonen
