Faithful in Prayer Mark esp. v29
2
Prayer in the context of mission
We are called to follow Jesus both up the mountain and down into the valley
3
Prayer that is spiritual warfare
Mark takes the existence of demonic activity – of a continued battle against evil, personal supernatural beings – as a self-evident aspect of reality, a fact of life… Paul says in Ephesians 6 and elsewhere that we are all fighting demonic ‘principalities’ all the time. Remember that even Jesus was not immune to these attacks. We read early on in the book of Mark that just after his baptism Jesus ‘was in the desert forty days, being tempted by Satan (Mark 1.12). Get a balance. If this had been written up by a non-Christian of the time Elaborate detail as to what sort of unclean or impure spirit, where in the hierarchy it came, little interest in the person being freed Christian, no interest in demonic world per se. Great concern for the boy and the Father.
