Exodus 8:1-15 The Second Plague
Pharaoh is refusing to let the Israelites go God (through Moses) is demanding their release Sends 1st plague: water to blood (7:14-25) Still stubbornly refuses (7:23) God sends the 2nd plague: frogs (8:1-15) Pharaoh asked Moses and Aaron to ask God to take away the frogs (v. 8) Moses and Aaron tell Pharaoh – you say when (v. 9) Pharaoh’s answer: “tomorrow” (v. 10)

Pharaoh called for relief (v. 8) Moses said, “you say when” (vv. 9-10) Answer: “tomorrow” “make it tomorrow” (The Message); “do it tomorrow” (NLT) One more (unnecessary) night with the frogs! Wants them gone – but not today – wait until tomorrow. Moses said – “let it be according to your word’ Alright then – tomorrow it will be! God will not deliver one from what he likes! Want another night with the frogs? – you got it!! Procrastination (vv. 8-11)

Pharaoh called for relief (v. 8) Moses said, “you say when” (vv. 9-10) Why wait? Pride – stubbornness (evidence: refusing to let the people go) God is ready to remove every frog! Pharaoh says – wait till tomorrow! Procrastination (vv. 8-11)

Pharaoh recanted on his promise Said he would let them go But when relief came – changed his mind We often make promise under distress When emotions are stirred When think we are dying When we get caught up in the actions / example of others When we are with others Recantation (v. 15)
