BA in Secondary Education from University of Arizona MA in Elementary Education from Northern Arizona University Tenth year teaching Also teach 7th grade ELA here at Aprende Love being active (softball, soccer, working out, escape rooms, bowling, hiking, going to the movies, etc.) Background:

What is AVID? A structured, college preparatory system working directly with schools and districts A direct support structure for students whom have the drive and determination to go to college and be successful. A schoolwide approach to curriculum and rigor adopted by more than 6,400 schools in 47 states and 16 countries. A professional development program providing training to educators throughout the world

Who Gets To Be In AVID? Students with Academic Potential:
Average to High Test Scores 2.5–3.5 GPA College Potential with Support Desire and Determination Good Citizenship Good Attendance Record Strong Work Habits *All the students in this class had to fill out an application and participate in an interview*

What Can AVID Students Expect From This Class?

What Can Parents Do To Help Their Child Be Successful?
Check grades on ParentVue Check agenda/sign agenda On Mondays and Wednesdays, ask if they have a completed TRF for the following day Ask about their short-term and long-term goals Ask what they learned at school each day Be engaged

AVID Student/Parent Agreement
Students will receive an AVID contract on Thursday. Please review it with your student and sign it together. Students You will see things on the contract such as: I will maintain at least a 2.0 GPA and satisfactory citizenship and attendance in all classes or will be placed on a probation contract. I will maintain enrollment in college preparatory classes. I will maintain an AVID three-ring binder (with calendar/agenda, focused notes, assignments in all classes, and Tutorial Request Forms). I will be an active learner, be prepared for all classes with all assigned work completed, take notes daily, and be an active participant in all activities. Parents You will see things on the contract such as: Partnering with the AVID Elective teacher through regular communication and attendance at parent/guardian meetings. Monitoring my child’s academic process to ensure that he/she is on track for meeting the grade and course requirements to remain in AVID and in line for the successful completion of college eligibility requirements. Checking for an organized binder with agenda, content class notes and Tutorial Request Forms weekly. Encouraging opportunities to take rigorous courses, complete college prep/entrance exams, and participate in community service, extracurricular activities, and leadership opportunities.

Team Building Name of the Game: “Don’t Be Last!”
XXX XXXXX XXXXXXX Objective: Do not take the last bingo chip. Rules: You have three rows of bingo chips (3,5,7). Take turns with your partner taking bingo chips. You can take as many as you want but you can’t take from multiple rows in one turn. Whoever is stuck taking the last bingo chip loses.
