What is Ubuntu It is an Operating System Available in 55 languages for
free open source based on Linux has over 50,000 software applications & utilities one of the most accessible free distributions of Linux available to home computer users Available in 55 languages for PCs, severs, smartphone, tablets Initial release in 2004 & has been updated many times Currently release 18.04 Official site The PCs in Salazar 2006 hold the LTS Release 18.04 =lmeDvSgN6zY =PTaL1s3YJPY Ubuntu is named after the Southern African philosophy of ubuntu (=humanness) LTS = Life Time Support

Why we use Ubuntu OS For the last decades lots of things we do are automated Automations need programming IOT (Internet of Things) is a good example Smart devices we us contain some cheap micro-processors/computers Use very simple operating system, based on Linux Ubuntu is based on Linux & offers excellent capability to Access to Terminal page and Access the console of switches & routers You can also use Ubuntu to: Access the Internet Access files in the Documents folder or attached memory devices Write your reports & submit it

Installing Ubuntu & getting to Ubuntu screen
PCs in Salazar 2006 have both Windows 10 & Ubuntu OSes As you power on PC, keep hitting the “UP” arrow key The list of operating systems are displayed Select Ubuntu (the first entry) & hit the “Return” key to boot Ubuntu If the above did not work, follow the steps below. Power On or Restart. Keep the Escape (ESC) key to see the Start Menu screen. Press Function key F9, to see the Boot Menu screen. In the Boot Menu select and press Boot from file. In the Select File System page select and press the second entry Pci/PciRoot. In the next Select File page select and press EFI. In the next Select File page select and press Ubuntu. In the next Select File page go down to second and press grub x 64.efi, Finally, quickly select and press Ubuntu to boot for the Ubuntu OS. If you did not select and press quickly, the computer will go to Windows 10 automatically.

Installing Ubuntu & getting to Ubuntu screen
You can MAKE a flash memory (8 GB preferred) to boot Ubuntu for your Windows PC or MacBook Go to & click on How to create Live Ubuntu on a Flash Drive This operation may take over minutes depending on the Internet connection & your computer. Make sure NOT to install or save Ubuntu on Salazar 2006 lab computers. To RUN Ubuntu from the flash memory attached to your laptop or MacBook: Power on your Windows computer, start hitting the function key F12 (?) to display the booting options, select “USB Storage Device” hit Return. Then select & hit Return on “Ubuntu without Installing”. Power on your MacBook, keep pressing the “Option” button to display the booting options, select the device that stores Ubuntu & hit Return. Then select & hit Return on “Ubuntu without Installing”.
