National Visitor Use Monitoring
Equipment distribution and what to expect
2
NVUM Cache Overview The cache is located in Missoula, MT at the National Technology and Development Program Center.
3
Cache Distribution In late August we will start to divide up what is remaining in the cache for early distribution to the FY18 forests. The full allotment of counters will include 4 full road counter kits and 3 trail counter kits. Don’t expect to have the full allotment before November. Review the schedule and plan ahead. We send out an to coordinators in late July asking that they begin to plan returning unneeded equipment as soon as possible. An additional is sent in late August. When we receive returns we check battery status, wipe the data, and assess the physical status of the counters and equipment before turning them around for distribution.

Equipment Configuration
The road counters are set at the cache to an interval of 1-hour. You can change the interval to 1-day if that better suits you. The trail counters are set to a “pulse rate” of 5. A pulse rate of 5 means the beam needs to be broken for ¼ of a second to register a count. 5 x .05 = .25 If you need count faster object decrease the pulse rate.
