3 Types of Service

4 Express Transfer Service
The majority of students eligible for transportation services through RTS will utilize Express Transfer Service or ETS. Express Transfer Service is quite convenient, as the routes travel from various neighborhoods throughout the City of Rochester to the School of the Arts Campus without stopping at the RTS Transit Center. This map depicts the sixteen (16) routes that will travel to/ from the School.

5 Non-Express Service to the School of the Arts
Route 48/ University Those students that require travel privileges at various times throughout the school day, will utilize “Non-Express Transfer Service”. They will travel downtown via the appropriate route from their neighborhood to the RTS Transit Center. Upon arriving at the Transit Center, students will transfer to the 48/ University to reach the School of the Arts, as depicted in the slide. RTS Transit Center School of the Arts

6 Types of Passes

7 No Downtown Pass (white)
If you receive a No Downtown Pass, which has a white background, you are required to use Express Transfer Service. As you see in the picture, the Pass has a white background and contains the students picture and name, as well as the school name and school year. This pass is only valid for travel on Express Transfer Routes.

8 1 Hour Connection Pass (gray)
Those students with travel exceptions will receive either a 1 Hour Connection Pass or a Flex Pass. The 1 Hour Connection Pass, pictured here, is gray in color and is valid from 5:30am to 9:30am at any bus stop, except the RTS Transit Center. For travel home, the pass is valid from 10:30am to 5:00pm at the bus stop closest to the school printed on the pass. In order to transfer at the Transit Center, you must request a Connection Pass, pictured here in blue, from the Operator when boarding in the morning at the bus stop in your neighborhood, as well as at school when traveling home.

9 Flex Pass (green) The Flex Pass, which has a green background, is valid from 5:30am to 7:00pm at any bus stop, except at the Transit Center. As with the 1 Hour Connection Pass, you must request a Connection Pass from the Operator at the time of boarding if you plan to transfer at the RTS Transit Center.

10 Temporary Passes No Downtown Pass (white)
1 Hour Connection Pass (grey) For travel to and from school on September 4th, 5th and 6th, students will utilize a temporary paper pass, which will be mailed to their home by the Rochester City School District Transportation Department. Students will receive either a No Downtown, white Pass or a 1 Hour Connection. Gray Pass. Students will receive their permanent pass at school during the first week.

11 Two Plus Two Activity Pass
Those students participating in after-school activities will be issued a Two Plus Two Activity Pass for travel home. The Pass is valid for two rides within a two hour period. The Two Plus Two Activity Pass is only valid when presented in conjunction with a Smart Card ID Pass. It is valid weekdays, when school is in session, from 3:30pm to 9:00pm, as well as all day on weekends, holidays and during school breaks. The Two Plus Two Activity Pass is only valid when presented in conjunction with an RCSD Smart Card ID Pass

12 Boarding Process

13 Boarding Process When traveling to school, arrive at your bus stop ten minutes prior to the scheduled departure time. Stand next to the bus stop sign and have your RCSD Smart Card ID Pass in hand so the Operator knows you intend to board. Look for the bus with the digital sign above the windshield displaying your route information. Example: 10X DEWEY TO 1 CHARLOTTE NO DONWTOWN LIMITED When traveling to school in the morning, be sure to arrive at the bus stop ten minutes before the scheduled departure time. Stand next to the bus stop and have your pass in hand, ready to board. Look for the bus with digital sign displaying your route.

14 Boarding Process Show your Pass to the Operator
The Operator will verify: That the picture on the pass is indeed you. That the type of pass is valid on that route, at that given location and time. Note: If you attempt to use a pass that is not yours, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the District Trans. Department. Upon boarding the RTS bus, you are required to show your pass to the Operator. The Operator will verify as to whether the picture on the pass is you, as well as if the type of pass is valid on that route, at that given time and location. If you attempt to use a pass with someone else’s picture on it, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the Rochester City School District Transportation Department.

15 Boarding Process Tap your card on the farebox
A “beep” indicates that your pass is valid. “Card not valid” is heard if pass is invalid. Note: If you attempt to use a pass that is not valid, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the District Trans. Department. Next, tap your Pass on the farebox where you see the bulls eye. If your pass is valid, you will hear a beep. If your pass is not valid, you will hear the recorded message, “card not valid”. If your pass registers as “not valid”, the Operator is required to take it from you for return to the Rochester City School District Transportation Department.
