6 Derived covariates The Composite Covariate option assumes we are working with an already built PHM, with some covariates included, say Z1, Z2,... The parameters γ1, γ2,... are the parameters related to the respective covariates Z1, Z2. Then the variable Z = γ1* Z1+ γ2*Z2+... is called the (overall) "composite covariate" of that PHM. We may decide to use only the "overall" composite covariate in our model, and thus reduce the dimensionality of the covariate vector to one.

10 Derived covariates Repeat the procedure for required number of group names. You may edit the selection by moving variables between the Selected Covariate list and Unselected Covariate list, and also edit all names. Once you press OK, the program will create the overall composite  variable Z__00 and all selected group variables. In this case there were two groups. Note that Z__00 = Z__00_00+Z__00_01.

11 Derived covariates Two group covariates and the overall covariates have been created for subsequent modeling.
