University Apprenticeships Employment Life skills Work experience is a brilliant thing to add onto your personal statement when applying for university! Competition for the best positions is high and your work experience will help you to stand out! Work experience will have given you skills and experiences that will help you at application and interview stage! The skills you will gain while on placement can be used through out your future and developed on as you gain more experience!

4 TOP TIPS FOR WORK EXPERIENCE SUCCESS
2 1 DO SOMETHING THAT INTERESTS YOU! RESEARCH THE COMPANY BEFORE YOU GO If you want to pursue a career in animal care, for example, try to get work experience at a vets or farm. Many employers want to be approached so don’t be afraid to contact your local businesses to see if they have opportunities available. Make sure you know who you are reporting to, what the company does, its aims and values, and who its customers are. ASK QUESTIONS 3 4 MAKE A NOTE OF THE SKILLS YOU LEARN Don’t be afraid to ask relevant questions as it can often show you are interested in the company and keen to learn more. This will help when writing CVs and UCAS personal statements. It’ll be useful to demonstrate to universities and potential employers in the future how well you can manage your time, communicate, and work with others.

It isn't all glitz and glamour.
THE REALITY They will have the chance to see a real working environment and a good foundation to start building their future. It isn't all glitz and glamour. There are limitations to what employers are allowed to let students do. If they don't enjoy it, there is still a lot of value in the process and what they will learn.

SO WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? COMPLETE THE APPLICATION FORMS! Application forms and self-placement forms. BE REALISTIC! Some sectors are in high demand. Make sure they get their top choice by securing a self-placement! DISCUSS THEIR CHOICES Make sure they speak to yourselves and teachers about the choices they want to make. They may be able to help!

SELF-PLACEMENTS THE CHOICE IS YOURS! You are in full control of where you will be going on your work placement. Think about your choices and potential businesses that interest you. Approach these potential employers by , phone or visiting them. Get your self-placement form filled in and signed by your chosen employer! IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE!

SELF-PLACEMENT FORM This for the employer to fill out. This is information we need so we can contact and visit them. Employers must have these insurances for the placement to go ahead. We need a signature from your employer and your teacher!

AVAILABLE PLACEMENTS A FANTASTIC OPPORTUNITY On some occasions there will be a choice of placements to chose from if your sector choices and travel areas don't provide what you specified.

COSTINGS The cost of each work experience placement is £57.00
The cost of a self-placement is £50.00 A worthwhile investment for the impact on their future decisions. The cost covers the placement matching, health and safety elements, risk assessments, contact paperwork and certificates.

DEADLINE DATES All forms are due in by: Monday 28th October

HOW THE PROCESS WORKS TOP 3 PREFERENCES SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS DEADLINE
PAPERWORK INTERVIEW Students are able to pick their top 3 preferences Our student directory provides important information about the placements available. A deadline for returned forms is Monday 28th October Each student will be given paperwork which will explain where they will be going and what they will be doing. Once the student knows where they will be going, they need to make contact with their employer to organise their interviews.
