Evolution of MADS Domain Organ Identity Quartets.
Evolution of MADS Domain Organ Identity Quartets. (A) Current model for reproductive organ specification of angiosperms (ABCE system, Arabidopsis) and gymnosperms (BC system, G. gnemon) and hypothesized quaternary complexes (Becker et al., 2003; Krizek and Fletcher, 2005, Smaczniak et al., 2012). se, sepals; pe, petals; st, stamens; ca, carpels. (B) Maximum likelihood phylogeny of MIKCc MADS box genes. Node labels of major lineages show bootstrap support values out of 100 bootstrap runs (*** > 90, ** > 70, and * > 50). The position of the reconstructed ancestral proteins is indicated at their respective nodes. Pie charts indicate the frequency of sites reconstructed with a high PP above 0.80 (Supplemental Figure 1). Angiosperm clades of interest are collapsed and color-filled. (C) Date estimation of B-, C/D-, and E-class subfamilies using BEAST (UCLN, uncorrelated lognormal distribution; UCED, uncorrelated exponential distribution) and penalized likelihood (PL).
