2. Scenario 1: Heart attack
Signs of a heart attack:
The person may have persistent, vice-like chest pain. The pain may spread to their arms, neck, jaw, back or stomach.
How to help:
Call 999 immediately and ensure they are sitting comfortably (for example, sit them on the floor, leaning against a wall or chair).
Give constant reassurance while waiting for help to arrive.

3. Scenario 2: Bleeding heavily
Someone has cut themselves – this could be on a knife when preparing food or falling on something sharp. If a wound is bleeding heavily, it will be too much for a plaster.
Put pressure on the wound with whatever is available to stop or slow down the flow of blood (your hand, a cloth, or some clothing).
Call 999 as soon as possible, or get someone else to do it.
Keep pressure on the wound until help arrives.

4. Scenario. 3: Unresponsive and breathing
If someone has collapsed they will be unresponsive. In this scenario, they are breathing.
Check for breathing: Tilt their head back and look at their chest or stomach to see if it is moving. Look, listen and feel for breaths on your cheek. If they are breathing, their chest or stomach will move.
Move them onto their side and tilt their head back.
Call 999 immediately or get someone else to do it.
