1 Memory and Thoughts How We Do It
By Emma and Lindsey

2 The Brain The Brain is a very complex and perplexing system. It lets you think, dream, remember, reason, and experience emotions. These are many of the things it can do. Are you wondering, “What else can my brain do?” Well, we’re here to show you!

3 What Does My Brain Do? My Brain accomplishes many things while I could be doing anything! Such as… Controls body temperature Blood pressure Heart rate Breathing All the senses (sight, hearing, smell, taste, & touch) Physical movement

4 How Does My Brain Do It All?
Well, The Brain has a part called the Cerebrum. It is the largest part of the Brain, and it takes up 85% of the Brain’s weight. It’s the part that lets you think. It holds short and long term memory, it helps you reason, and has two halves. The right half lets you remember music, colors, shapes, abstract things, and it controls the left side of the body, and the left half controls the right side. How interesting!

5 Here Is A Question Answered…
How quickly does the Brain calculate? 20,000,000,000,000,000 bits of info are transmitted per second It depends on how many neurons we have, how fast they fire, and how many cells each neuron connects to, that was a good estimated guess. Wow! 100 billion neurons X200 firings per second X1,000 connections each 20,000,000,000,000,000

6 Here Is Another Question Answered…
How does the brain save and retrieve memories? The Brain stores different types of info in different places. Sort of like a gigantic filing system, right? It even stores memories we don’t think about! We retrieve memories when two neurons pass information through a small space called a synapse. The hippocampus is the part of the brain that holds memories and helps you remember them.

7 “Brainy” Facts Some scientists believe our dreams are actually the Brain trying to remember past info or our Brains are trying to prepare us for the future. The frontal lobe and the occipital lobe are the parts of the Brain that help you think.

8 What Do You See? 1. 2. 3. 4.

9 WHAT WAS THAT?!?!! Those were optical illusions, or brain tricks. They are designed to make others see what it is not. For example, #1, even though you were supposed to say the color, it made you say the word. #2 made you think the picture was wavy. #3 made you think the circles you weren’t focusing on were spinning. #4 is actually flat, a tile floor, not steps.(It looked 3-D, didn’t it?) See? Optical illusions can be tricky. Do you know any optical illusions?

10 The End… This slideshow was to teach people about the Brain and how it remembers and thinks. We hope you enjoyed our slideshow! Bye!
