2 Introduction The Gamma Bracing System
Gamma bracing system is a light weight steel, structural truss bracing frame that fits INSIDE the timber studs and between the top and bottom plates. And is designed to provide structural bracing performance for timber framed constructions Gamma bracing frames are ideally suited for New or Existing constructions or the refurbishment of existing buildings that have suffered trauma & Leaky Building syndrome.

3 Gamma Testing Gamma bracing frames have been fully tested and accordance with NZS3604: 2011 P21[2010] Racking Test method for use in New Zealand 3

4 Gamma Certification Independent Structural Engineer to review testing.
Can also provide expert technical support . Structural design work

5 Gamma Technical Literature
Gamma Technical Installation Manual. Details how to install Performance details Details required components Hold Down requirements

6 Gamma Performance Gamma Performance
Gamma bracing frames provide up to 80BU for wind (130BU/m) Gamma bracing frames provide up to 90BU for earthquake (150BU/m) Gamma Performance Gamma system Reference Wind (BU’s) Earthquake (BU’s) GBF400/2.4 45 GBF400/2.7 40 GBF400/3.0 35 GBF535G/2.4 69 75 GBF600/2.4 80 90 GBF600/2.7 70 GBF600/3.0 55 60

7 Gamma Software Calculator
Gamma bracing calculator software available from the Gamma web site Calculates Demand and Achieved The Gamma Bracing software is flexible and allows the user to include other bracing products and systems. Archicad Architectural design software available

8 Gamma Installation Establish the position of the Gamma frames within the building. Can be installed at Pre-nail frame stage. Directly onsite Can be installed from the outside when the cladding is removed. Or from the inside when the lining is removed. In wet areas (bathrooms etc) Gamma frames are 45mm in depth leaving space for cross noggins

9 Gamma Installation Mark hole positions on bottom plate and drill through into floor to the required depth. Then fit the Gamma frame. Ensure the holes are free from debris and insert the Masonry screw. Place the washer over the bracket.

10 Gamma Installation Insert the impact socket extension drive through the access hole in the lower part of the frame and impact drive the bolt into the concrete.

Gamma Hold-Down Anchor Requirements Hold-down Anchors Floor Type Wall Type Anchor Type Uplift Capacity Concrete External Wall Masonry Screw 15kN Chemical Set Anchor ‘J” Bolt set into concrete Internal Wall Expansion bolt Timber External/Internal M12 x 200mm Coach Screws 12kN

13 Gamma Installation (Concrete Floors)
For external walls on concrete floors position the Gamma frame flush with the inside face of the timber framing to achieve the maximum edge distance for the Hold-Down anchor. (Min Edge distance 60mm). For internal walls the Gamma frames can be positioned anywhere within the framing

14 Gamma Installation (Timber Floors)
For external walls on timber floors position the Gamma frame to ensure that the Hold-Down anchors are fastened into solid blocking.

15 Gamma Installation - Insulation
Install insulation to all cavities within the Gamma frame No issue with thermal loss or conductivity (Gamma frames are 45mm in depth) Pre cut installation packs are available from most insulation suppliers Bradford Styrobeck EcoFleece Expol Pink Batts

16 Installation of Gamma Frames
Gamma frames deliver the specific engineering bracing units to the structure immediately they are installed. Gamma bracing frames can be used in conjunction with other bracing systems Gamma frames have service access holes pre punched. Any modifications to the Gamma frame are not permitted Installation diagram provided with each frame along with fixing screws & washers. Install the interior linings as per AS/NZS No plasterboard bracing fixing patterns are required Timber moisture levels do NOT need to be less than 18% before Gamma fames are installed. This allows early structural integrity to the building.

17 Installation of Gamma Frames
Gamma bracing frames can accommodate stud centers of 400, 450 & 600mm & various stud heights using timber blocking.

18 Installation of Gamma Frames
GBF535G/2.4 – Gamma GBF400 frame with double studs either side.

19 Installation of Gamma Frames
New building code requirements require LBP to install structural bracing elements. GAMMA bracing systems are flexible for designers and easily incorporated into the building design. GAMMA’S are permanent structural members not easily destroyed with DIY projects.

20 Gamma – Outstanding Performance
Gamma bracing frames provide a highly ductile and robust structural bracing system and will continue to provide structural service post event allowing dwellings to be re-habitable. The Gamma bracing frame maintains increased performances even when taken well past the recommended test deflection limits in the P21 [2010] test procedure. Gamma bracing frame withstood multiple consecutive P21 Racking tests with only a very minimal drop of in performance compared with the first test. This proved that the Gamma is extremely robust and durable.

21 Gamma – Key Build Cost Savings
Pre-Nail installation requires the Gamma frame to be simply dropped in between the studs and 4 x Hex head screws installed. Installing Gamma bracing frames is easy and cost effective No requirement for temporary bracing (Labour & Material) No Structural Plywood or Plasterboard Bracing lining boards required. Bracing completed once framing is erected and Gamma frame installation is completed. No post line Council inspection required. Installation of the interior linings quicker, easier and can be carried out once the build is fully enclosed. Reduced issues with plasterboard joint peaking and fastener popping.
