Presentation on theme: "What does annotating mean?"— Presentation transcript:

1 What does annotating mean?
Annotating is method where you take notes directly in your book. It is not simply highlighting/underlining. Purpose: To keep your reading focused and help to develop different levels of comprehension (basic, interpretative, and reading “beyond” the text for patterns or universal meanings). It also allows for the monitoring of your various comprehension levels during your independent reading. Like pop quizzes, discussions, tests, projects, etc. is a means of assessing how you are reading. Expect in all AP/IB English classes and likely others.

2 What should an annotated page look like?
You should have notes about characters, plot elements, literary elements, vocabulary, etc. The notes should be observations, reflections, analyses, and insightful connections you’re making about the story, characters, literary elements, etc. Any discussions/class activities with the text may have information you could return annotate.
