All Fluids Exert Pressure Fluids include liquids and gases. Pressure is the amount of force exerted on a given area.

2 The Formula of Force Pressure = Force / Area Force = Pressure x Area
The SI unit is the pascal (pa) F P A

3 More on Pressure Pressure depends on the depth of the fluid Lower depth = more pressure Water also exerts pressure.

4 From High to Low Fluids flow from regions of high pressure to regions of low pressure. Example: breathing, drinking through a straw, tornadoes, etc.

5 Pascal’s Principle A change in pressure at any point in an enclosed fluid will be transmitted equally to all parts of that fluid.

6 Devices that use liquids to transmit pressure from one point to another are called hydraulic devices. Ex: brakes in car, earth movers
