What is the MEC? Established in 1988 to support the academic success and personal development of historically underrepresented students on campus Aims to promote diversity on our campus through: Community engagement and programming Social justice Back in the 1980’s, data showed that only 35% of Black students graduated in five years or less and 45% of Hispanic students did so. Students of color often transitioned from small school environments to this large university making it easy for them to feel lost. Realizing that students needed a bridge to succeed, the MEC was created.
