5
WHY SOLAR?
6
WHY SOLAR? An established technology which has been available since the 1950’s Worldwide, more people are currently employed in the solar industry than the coal industry Reduce operating expenses and greenhouse gas emissions Fully commercialized for large and small-scale energy generation
7
ALBERTA MUNICIPAL SOLAR PROGRAM
Provide funding to municipalities to install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on municipal facilities or land
8
29 75 11.6 MW 8,512 tonnes CO2e PARTICIPATION MUNICIPALITIES PROJECTS
INSTALLED CAPACITY ANNUAL REDUCTIONS Annual reductions equivalent to over 8 million pounds of coal burned 11.6 MW 8,512 tonnes CO2e

FUNDING
11
TOTAL INSTALLED CAPACITY (DC)
REBATE Less than 10 kilowatts $0.90/Watt 10 kilowatts to 150 kilowatts $0.75/Watt 150 to 2 megawatts $0.60/Watt 2 megawatts to 5 megawatts $0.55/Watt The rebate maximum is 30% of eligible expenses. Funding is available on a first come, first served basis. Municipalities are eligible to submit multiple applications.
12
FIRST TIME APPLICANT BONUS
Additional $0.25/watt is available to municipalities that have not previously participated in the AMSP, for their first project Up to a maximum of $250,000 per project The bonus rebate is applied in addition to the 30% maximum

EXAMPLE
14
Municipality looking to install solar on the roof of their arena…
System Size: 150 kW Project cost: $380,000 Rebate category: $0.75/Watt (for projects 10 kW to 150 kW) Standard rebate: $0.75/Watt x 150,000 Watts = $112,500 $112,500 < 30% of $380,000 so full amount received Fist-time Applicant Bonus: $0.25/Watt x 150,000 Watts = $37,500 Total Final Rebate: $112,500 + $37,500 = $150,000 40% of the project costs are covered.
