2 An adverb is a word that modifies or changes the meaning of a verb, an adjective, or another adverb.

4 * Really tells how wonderful the stories were.
Adverbs that modify adjectives or other adverbs usually come directly before the words they modify. The teacher told really wonderful stories. * Really tells how wonderful the stories were.

5 Many adverbs are formed by adding the suffix –ly to adjectives.
Caution: Not all adverbs end in –ly. Not all words ending in –ly are adverbs.

9 Adverbs can appear in different positions in the sentence.
The students boarded the bus eagerly. The students eagerly boarded the bus. Eagerly, the students boarded the bus.
