Rationale The assignment has a significant Impact on a pupils final grade. It is an area that pupils, parents and staff have control over. Many parents are unsure how to support pupils through the process.

The Assignment Process
Topic and Question is chosen by the pupil. The topic is researched in class (5 periods) and at home. First draft is generated and feedback is given Second draft is generated and write-up date is arranged

Teacher Feedback Can Point you in the right direction for sources.
Provide general advice for structure. Answer questions you have about your topic. Give you questions to help you improve your own essays e.g why did you say this… do you think you explained that well… Cannot (and will not) Give you an individual structure Give you a mark Give you specific content suggestions Give you examples of other peoples work

Choosing a topic Teachers will shortly share a list of potential topics with pupils. This will allow discussions to begin at home to help engagement. This will also help parents and pupils to start generating research.

Researching a topic Pupils need to select from a wide range of good sources Newspapers, Google scholar, textbooks, library books, websites Avoid Wikipedia, blogs, Just Ask *Pupils need to keep a note of all sources

Geography The Geography Assignment is unique in that it relies on primary research or fieldwork. A residential fieldwork opportunity in the Lake District is arranged for 4-5th October where students can research topics like “Downstream Changes in a River” or the “Impact of Tourism in Grasmere”. Students will produce the evidence for the assignment in the form of a report based on the research and the analysis that has led to a valid conclusion.

Preparing for the write up
Revision and timing are required from home. Begin by doing trial runs with final drafts to work on timing. Complete two more runs with only resource sheet and compare with draft.
