1 This is Jeopardy Chapter 5 -Populations To make this game…
First think of five review categories and five questions for each category. Add the categories to the top of the table in slide 2. Place your questions according to the categories into the slides. For example…C1-200 is the question for Category 1 worth 200 points. C5-400 is the question for Category 5 worth 400 points. Place a final jeopardy question in the Final Jeopardy box. Test your slide show. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at or

2 Category No. 1 Category No. 2 Category No. 3 Category No. 4 No. 5 100
200 300 400 500 To play the game. Divide you class into teams. If you have bells or some other way of emulating ringing in your answers, knock yourself out! The contestant chooses a category and a point value. Click on their choice and you will advance to the associated slide. Click on the slide to reveal the answer. Once the contestant has stated the question click on the slide again to reveal the question. Click BACK to return to the Categories Slide. The first contestant from team 1 goes first then I alternate to the next team. Final Jeopardy

3 C1-100-The answer is… How do you calculate population density?
Number of organisms/area Back

4 C1-200-The answer is… When organisms move out of a population it is called emigration Back

5 C1-300-The answer is… What is happening if a population decreases?
Birth rate is lower than death rate Back

6 C1-400-The answer is… What are 2 ways a population can decrease in size? Emigration, increased death rate Back

7 C1-500-The answer is… Exponential growth occurs when
There are unlimited/plentiful resources There are no limiting factors Back

8 C2-100-The answer is… In a logistic growth curve, exponential growth is the phase in which the population Grows quickly Back

9 C2-200-The answer is… A biotic or abiotic factor that causes populations to decrease is a Limiting factor Back

10 C2-300-The answer is… This is the population that a given environment can support Carrying capacity Back

11 C2-400-The answer is… Which type of population would be least likely to be affected by a density dependent factor? A small scattered population Back

12 C2-500-The answer is… About 500 years ago the population started to
Increase rapidly Back

13 C3-100-The answer is… What caused the human population to increase dramatically in the last 500 years? Industrial revolution Back

14 C3-200-The answer is… Under ideal conditions with unlimited resources a population will… Grow exponentially Back

15 C3-300-The answer is… Competition, predation, and parasitism are all which type of limiting factor? Density dependent factors Back

16 C3-400-The answer is… What kept the human growth rate low before the industrial revolution? Sickness, poor hygiene, low availability of resources Back

17 C3-500-The answer is… What is the difference between an age structure diagram of a developed country vs. a developing country? Developing country – more triangular Developed country – more even distribution from bottom to top Back

18 C4-100-The answer is… What technique did we use to estimate population size? Capture-Mark-Recapture Back

19 C4-200-The answer is… What type of species are the zebra mussels discussed on page 136? Non-native, Introduced, or Invasive species Back

20 C4-300-The answer is… 300 Wellsville squirrels were captured and marked. 200 were recaptured and 20 of them had marks. What is the population estimation? 3000 squirrels Back

21 C4-400-The answer is… In what 4 main ways can a population change?
Emigration, immigration, low or high birth rate or death rate Back

22 C4-500-The answer is… What is the difference between exponential and logistical growth? Exponential – unlimited quick growth Logistical – level population rate because of carrying capacity and limiting factors Back

23 C5-100-The answer is… This type of dispersion would be represented by packs or schools. clumped Back

24 C5-200-The answer is… This type of dispersion would be represented by penguins uniform Back

25 C5-300-The answer is… This type of dispersion could be represented by plants but is rare. random Back

26 C5-400-The answer is… Carrying capacity includes but is not limited to the following factors. Amount of available food and living space Back

27 C6-500-The answer is… The predator-prey relationship is a density _________ factor. dependent Back

28 Final Jeopardy Efforts to control non-native species like hydrilla (discussed on pg. 141 in your assigned reading) where chemicals are used in attempt to exterminate the invasive species is an example of a density- ______________ limiting factor. Independent Back End Game
