18 Step One – The Application

This can also be done through Naviance Review what you will need for the application to be complete: Essay? Letters of Recommendation? Fill out the application completely!

20 The Common Application
Provides an admission application to around 450 different colleges Has a number of different sections – see me for assistance if something isn’t making sense

21 Step Two – The Admission Essay
If your application requires an essay – follow the directions and be sure to answer the questions. Proof your writing Examples from college I am a simple person to talk about. I am a quiet, thinkative person I grew up with a brother more than 100% deaf This past spring I was abducted by the National Honor Society Be authentic! Don’t write about what you think they want to hear. * Students always ask me, “what would you like to see in an essay?” And my answer is that it’s not what I want to see. It’s what you want to tell us.” - Amy Abrams, Dean of Admissions Colleges are really stressing the importance of the essay in the application review process.

22 Step Three – Letters of Recommendation
Not Every College Requires Letters of Recommendation! Schools who require letters of recommendation – are more interested in seeing letters from teachers of core subjects: Math; Science; Social Studies; Foreign Language Please make sure you give the teachers plenty of time to work on this. And if you submit the request online, you should talk with the teacher about an they will be receiving. Good letters require considerable time and effort and you don’t want to rush a person who is trying to help you!

23 Step Four – Submitting The Application
Review carefully to make sure you have completed all sections of the application and to check for errors. Have a parent or another adult proof your application before submitting. Make sure you let me know when you have submitting your application so that I can send your transcript. Don’t assume the college will contact me. I would rather get the information twice than not at all. If I’m unavailable, you can also leave a message with Mrs. Carpenter.

24 Remember: Colleges require ACT/SAT scores to come directly from the testing agency!
