Year 1/2WB Autumn Term History Physical Education
This term, we will be learning about the artist Jackson Pollock and looking at his style of artwork. We will also learn about Guy Fawkes and the significance of his actions and Bonfire Night. Physical Education The children will develop their physical skills by taking part in a range of indoor and outdoor PE activities. PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education) During this term the children will study a variety of themes including: feelings, friends and friendships. We will discuss the importance of being a good friend and how the things we do can make others feel. In Autumn Term 2, we will also learn about living a healthy lifestyle. MFL In French we will be learning new words for numbers and animals. The children will be bringing home a log in for Language nut – an online resource that has lots of games and activities to support their learning. Music The children will learn about the beats in music and rhythm and tempo. They will identify the style features of hip-hop and reggae style music. Rockingham Junior and Infant school ‘Be the best that you can be.’ Dear Parents/ Carers, The Autumn term in Y1/2 will be full of exciting opportunities. We will introduce our new topic ‘Fur, Feathers and Skin’ and learn all about different animals when we visit the Yorkshire Wildlife Park. The children will continue their development of number skills and sentence writing building on what they have learnt previously. In order to progress well the children will need your continued support at home, listening to them read and ensuring that any homework tasks are completed. Design Technology/STEM/ Art
Literacy This term in Literacy we will be consolidating our writing skills. We will use what we have learnt to simple sentences to describe settings of stories, a non-chronological report about animals at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, postcards, instructions and persuasive writing encouraging people to donate to local dog charities. We will learn what verbs, nouns and adjectives are and their function in a sentence. Numeracy In maths the children will be consolidating their previous knowledge and studying a range of mathematical concepts including: Place value *Time Names and properties of shapes * Multiplication and division Position and Direction * Money Weight and Length * Fractions Addition and subtraction Science This term we will identify and name a variety of common animals including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We will learn sort animals into carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and discuss what different animals need to survive. We will move our learning on by learning all about humans including all of the different body parts and what we need to survive. ICT/ Computing We will learn about e safety in our computing sessions. We will use computers, iPads, and laptops to develop our ICT skills. In ICT we will use different paint packages to create images and develop our keyboard skills to add sentences. Design Technology/STEM/ Art In art we will learn about Jackson Pollock and colour mixing. We will use what we have learnt to create beautiful pieces of art work. In Design Technology we will be designing and making our own bird feeders to feed the birds through the winter. RE Our studies in Religious Education will be based around: Term 1 – Signs of belonging for Jewish and Christian people. Term 2 – How to say thank you for the earth.
