Good Morning! List the Biological Levels of Organization from MOST INCLUSIVE to LEAST INCLUSIVE. What is included in an ecosystem, but not in a community? What is included in a community, but not in a population?

In an ecosystem powered by the sun, energy flows from the sun to autotrophs to heterotrophs.
Energy only flows in one direction Food chains show how energy is transferred from organism to organism by seeing who eats who
5
Levels of a Food Chain Producer: Uses sun’s energy (or inorganic compounds) to make food; an autotroph Primary Consumer: A herbivore; a heterotroph that eats only producers Secondary Consumer: An omnivore or carnivore that eats the primary consumers; a heterotroph Tertiary Consumer: An omnivore or carnivore that eats the secondary consumers; a heterotroph Top Predator: An omnivore or carnivore with no natural predators
6
Decomposers and detritivores obtain energy from dead organisms at any level of the food chain and recycle the nutrients in those carcasses. We don’t classify decomposers or detritivores has primary, secondary or tertiary consumers, but their role in ecosystems is critical They remove dead material of plants and animals from the ecosystem and return those nutrients to the environment Without decomposers and detritivores, the flow of energy would come to a stop, because nutrients would not be recycled
7
Food web show complex relationships of energy transfer within an ecosystem!
8
Food Web Practice Identify the producers.
Identify the primary consumers. Identify the secondary and tertiary consumers (as one group). Identify the decomposers and detritivores (as one group). Identify the autotrophs. Identify the heterotrophs.

Ecosystem Project: Food Web
Using the producers, herbivores, omnivores, and carnivores you identified, create food web that shows how energy moves through an ecosystem by organisms eating each other. For each organism (and you should have at least 10), identify the organism as an autotroph or a heterotroph, and if for each heterotroph, if it’s a herbivore, omnivore or carnivore. You may add additional autotrophs and/or heterotrophs into your food web, if you’d like. Add at least two decomposers/detritivores to your food web. For your rough draft, you may do quick sketches of the plants and animals. For your final copy, you’ll either find pictures from the internet or draw neat sketches of the plants and animals to the best of your ability. This rough draft is due Wednesday before you leave class. Remember, you will have a Formative Assessment Quiz on Wednesday and Wednesday is a short class period due to Reward Time in the afternoon. Be sure to plan accordingly.
