2 What was the Baroque? The Baroque began in Rome around 1600
It was a style that could be found in sculpture, painting, literature and painting The Baroque was encouraged by Roman Catholic officials that wanted to promote religion in the arts (Counter-Reformation)

3 Art Art was supposed to speak to the illiterate, not the well-educated
Patrons were most popular in Rome Some famous artists from this time include the following:
