1 The Course Request Approval System (CRAS) provides a quick and efficient means to electronically submit, approve, and process course requests. Departments will use CRAS to: Add new courses Make revisions to existing courses Inactivate existing courses Provide the first level of approval for a course request.

2 There are two basic roles in the new system:

Workflow chart: course approval process Submit Transaction Approval 1: Unit Approval 3: Career Approval 4: University Course Catalog Populate ConnectCarolina course catalog Department, curricula, unit Department, curricula, unit Office of Undergraduate Education: all courses <= 699 (excluding LAW, MED, DENT, PHCY). Graduate School: all courses >= 700 (excluding LAW, DENT, MED, PHCY). Professional Schools: Courses with career = LAW, DENT, MED, PHCY. Office of the University Registrar Approval 2: Course Sponsor Department, curricula, unit Submit Transaction: Course submission access is tied to user security and their academic organization. Approval 1 (Unit): Department chair or other curricula authority for unit. Approval 2 (Course Sponsor): If a request is made from a non-sponsor in a cross-list, an additional level of approval will be required. The non-sponsor unit (academic organization) approves the request and then the sponsor unit receives the transaction for approval. Edit, approve, or reject change actions available. Approval 3 (Career): Course requests are routed at this stage based on the academic career selected in the original course request. Edit, approve, or reject change actions available. Approval 4 (University): The Curriculum Specialist in the Office of the University Registrar will provide final approval for all courses. Edit, approve, or reject change actions available. notification to submitter when approved. Course Catalog: The last step in the course approval process involves posting all approved course requests to the course catalog.
