Fall eligibility – must be promoted Spring eligibility -- # courses passed 1st semester Physical – AFTER May 1, 2019

Once a week Character lessons; life lessons “go to” adult Advisor “rolls” with the student throughout their tenure at HVMS

Daily student schedule… 4 – 90 minute blocks
1 English Everyday Full Year Math/ Everyday Full Year 2 3 Science/Social Studies Everyday for 1 Sem Social Studies/Science PE A-Day Electives B-Day 4A 4B 8th grade Elective options include world language, concentrated focus on two electives by semester, and optional PE either full year or semester.

Registration Timeline
Dec 5 & 6 -student presentations Jan 4 -“Rec Day”- English and math teachers confer with students Jan 9 - signed registration forms returned to English teachers Jan rising 8th graders meet with counselors individually

REGISTRATION FORM Teacher recommendations for English and math will be marked on the registration form (Jan 4) If Pre-AP recommended, a contract will be attached. Cannot register for PreAP without contract. Must be turned into English teachers by Jan 9(with parent’s signature)

Course Selection, THE process…
Students register for courses Student course requests presented to central office in FEBRUARY which classes are offered how many classes are offered Be thoughtful with course selections

PRE-AP COURSES Teachers will make recommendation for English and math; parents need to consider overall course load Parent must sign Pre-AP Contract and return with registration form Signed Contract Required

What is a middle school PreAP course?
Exposes students earlier to skills necessary for AP Content-specific instructional strategies to teach students AP-related skills, concepts, and assessment methods Prepares students to be more successful in AP courses Signed Contract Required

What is a high school AP course?
highly rigorous course content-specific instructional strategies to teach students AP-related skills, concepts, and assessment methods; writing skills essential potential to earn college credit based upon AP exam score
