1 Identify the interactions to the right:
1. When two organisms live together but one is harmed 2. When two organisms need a specific resource 3. A barnacle attached to a whale 4. A lion that hunts a water buffalo 5. A clown fish living in a sea anemone Identify the interactions to the right:

2 Identify and describe the important characteristics of a population
geographic distribution: where and how close population density: how many immigration : Individuals that enter emigration: Individuals that leave growth rate: birth versus death. Talk in your tabletops:

3 Human Impact on the Ecosystem Note Note
NB Set-Up 10/2/19 Human Impact on the Ecosystem Note Note Image Image Human Population Growth EQ: 4 color-coded questions: 4 sentence summary: 52 53

4 NBpg 53 Slide 1 of 4 EQ: Understand the trend of human population growth, including all contributing factors.

5 NBpg 53 Slide 2 of 4 The scientific study of human populations is called demography, which examines the characteristics of human populations and attempts to explain how those populations will change over time. World-O-Meter

6 Write in the Notes section (single- spaced):
NBpg 53 Slide 3 of 4 Don’t draw: Write in the Notes section (single- spaced): Analyzing the Chart Determine the population increase from 1950 to 2010. 4,256,648,366 2. Does the 2050 prediction make sense? Why or why not?

7 Which Graph Represents Human Population?
Exponential Growth Logistic Growth Under ideal conditions with unlimited resources, a population will grow exponentially. Species reproduce at a constant rate. Logistic growth occurs when a population's growth slows or stops (carry capacity), as resources become less available.

8 Historical Overview Read (7 readers) Like the populations of many other living organisms, the size of the human population tends to increase with time. For the majority of human existence, the population grew slowly, very slowly. Limiting factors kept population sizes low. (What factors?) About 500 years ago, the human population began growing more rapidly. (What do you think happened?) Life was made easier and safer by advances in agriculture and industry. Death rates were dramatically reduced due to improved sanitation, medicine, and healthcare, while birthrates remained high. With these advances, the human population experienced exponential growth.

12 How does ecosystem play an important role in the survival of humans?
NBpg 52 Slide 1 of 2 How does ecosystem play an important role in the survival of humans? As a society, we depend on healthy ecosystems to do many things: to purify the air so we can breathe properly sequester carbon for climate regulation cycle nutrients so we have access to clean drinking water without costly infrastructure pollinate our crops so we don't go hungry

13 Name some of the major impacts humans have on the environment
NBpg 52 Slide 2 of 2 Humans impact on environment in several ways, some common effects include: water quality environmental pollution greenhouse gas emissions depletion of natural resources contribution to climate change. The impact of so many humans on the environment takes two major forms: consumption of resources such as land, food, water, air, fossil fuels and minerals. waste products as a result of consumption such as air and water pollutants, toxic materials and greenhouse gases Name some of the major impacts humans have on the environment
