1 Friday, April 19, 2013 DLTs: I can read increasingly challenging text.
I can evaluate the author’s use of parallel plots/subplots I can distinguish the theme of an increasingly challenging text. I can analyze the conventions of dramatic literature (characterization). I can analyze the author’s stated or implied purpose.

2 Bell Ringer/Flashback
Creon tells Haemon to…. Forgive Antigone Spit the woman out Bend like the trees To run away and hide 2. The final punishment for Antigone is…. To go to the guillotine To be hanged To be publically stoned To be buried in a cave 3. Haemon compares Creon to A bull and a tree that doesn’t bend A tree that doesn’t bend and a tightly pulled sail A tightly pulled sail and a bull A man without a ship and a tree that doesn’t bend 4. True or False: Haemon obeys Creon. 5. True or False: Antigone believes that the gods will pay back the men who broke their laws.

3 Agenda for Antigone Read Scene 5 Watch clip
I can read increasingly challenging text. Character Activity: You will be given a character. You must create at least 5 objects: (draw pictures, create 3-d objects, use magazine clippings,-be creative!) that represent your given character. Each object must have a written explanation! I can distinguish the conventions of dramatic literature (characterization) to assess how they express a writer’s meaning.

4 Bell Ringer/Flashback
Based on what we read yesterday… What kind of life were the animals living? When Napoleon announced they would be doing “outside business”, how did the other animal react? How did Napoleon use the memory of Snowball? What happened when the hens refused to give up their eggs? What happened to Boxer and what does this represent?

5 Read Read pages DLT: I can read increasingly challenging text.

6 Partner Activity Think about how the pigs are running the farm and the windmill controversy. (managing “employees” is difficult) With a partner, create a fictional company of your choice. Describe what your company is going to manufacture or do. (write 1 paragraph about your company) Imagine that you have 5 employees working for you. Design a work schedule (for one week)and a pay scale for your employees. Decide which of the 5 previously discussed themes, this part of the story would express and explain why. DLT: I can evaluate the author’s use of parallel plots/subplots DLT: I can distinguish the theme of an increasingly challenging text.
