SAP implementation started in as part of targeted demonstration under the ATSEA Project.

2. Has SAP implementation delivered any LME-related policy reforms at the national level?
The first fisheries ecosystem-based fisheries management plan in Indonesia was completed in 2013 by the MMAF for Fisheries Area 718 covering the Aru, Arafura and Timor Seas (one of 11 fisheries management areas in Indonesia). The plan was developed following an ecosystem-based approach advocated in the SAP/NAP.
The ATSEA Project had direct influence in the decision to start with Fisheries Area 718 as there was extensive data available through the TDA. The TDA/SAP process was ecosystem-based, so much of the foundational analysis was ready.

3. Has SAP implementation delivered any LME-related policy reforms at the regional level?
The SAP and NAPs agreed and adopted at the national (inter-ministerial) and regional (intergovernmental levels) provided basis for the governments of Indonesia, Timor Leste and Australia to work together toward the following medium-term (10-year) environmental quality objectives:
Recovering and sustaining fisheries
Restoring degraded habitats for sustainable provision of ecosystem services
Reducing land-based and marine sources of pollution
Protecting key marine species
Adaptation to impacts of climate change
