Olga M. Salgado 3rd Grade Heat & Energy
2
Electricity is a form of energy that people produce from the active energy
of wind and moving water and the stored energy in oil and coal.
3
Evaporation is the changing of a liquid into gas.
Boiling water evaporates.
4
Conduction is when there is movement of thermal energy from one thing to another.
Example: Spoon placed in hot water- *toast placed in a toaster
5
Convection occurs when thermal energy is moved from one place to another in moving liquids and gases. Example: A heating fan can warm up the cold air in a room.
6
Radiation occurs when thermal energy moves without touching anything.
Example: Sun warms you even though you are not touching it.
7
Expands: When something expands it gets bigger when it gets hotter.
Bridge-pavement
8
Contracts: When something contracts it gets smaller from being cold.
9
Celsius: Named after Professor Celsius, temperature measured in a kind of number scale.
Fahrenheit: Named after Professor Fahrenheit, also a kind of number scale used to measure temperature.
10
that make up everything around us.
Molecules: Tiny particles that make up everything around us.
11
Something that keeps electricity, heat, or sound from escaping:
Insulation: Something that keeps electricity, heat, or sound from escaping: Examples: Birds/feathers People/clothes Lunchboxes
