1 Review rotation lab 1. Which is not a part of the circulatory system? A heart B veins C arteries D brain 2. Which describes the purpose of the circulatory system? A supply oxygen and nutrients to the body via the blood vessels B remove digestive waste C control all of the movement within the body D remove liquid waste as urine

2 Review rotation lab 3. ____________________ travel away from the heart and carry oxygen-rich blood to the body. A arteries B veins C bones D nerves 4. The circulatory system works directly with the _______________ system To exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide in the body. A excretory B endocrine C respiratory D nervous

3 The path that blood takes.
Copy the following into your notes.

4 The heart is an organ. Which of these are also organs and which are not?
Not an organ Brain  Nucleus Cell  Liver Skin  Eye Nerve  Cytoplasm Create a T-chart to show your answers. One column for Organs and the other for Not Organs.

5 The heart has four chambers.
Re-write the statements in your notebook, put True or false at the end of each statement. How much do you know about the heart? The heart has four chambers. The heart is the largest organ in the  body. The heart contains valves. The heart contains cardiac muscle. True False

6 How much do you know about the heart?
Re-write the statements in your notebook, put True or false at the end of each statement. How much do you know about the heart? The heart contains chambers known as  the atrium. The heart is not an organ. The left side of the heart pumps blood to the lungs. True False

7 The heart pumps blood around the body
The heart pumps blood around the body. The following pages describe the pathway of blood through the heart. Write each of the steps blood takes as it travels through the heart. You should indicate the flow with arrows on the heart. There should be six steps or stages.

8 Stage 1: Blood enters the heart through the vena cava, low on oxygen, and goes into the right atrium. The Heart

9 Stage 2: The heart pumps the blood from the right atrium to the right ventricle.

10 Stage 3: The heart pumps blood from the right ventricle, through the pulmonary artery, toward the lungs. The Heart

11 Stage 4: The blood returns from the lungs, full of oxygen, and re-enters through the left atrium.
The Heart

12 Stage 5: The heart pumps blood from the left atrium into the left ventricle.

13 Stage 6: The heart then pumps blood from the left ventricle, out of the heart, and to the rest of the body. The Heart

14 In reality, stages one to three occur at the same time as stages four to six. Blood enters and exits both sides of the heart at the same time.

15 Use the blank heart diagram and your notes to make a colored coded path of blood through the heart.
Right side is low on oxygen and is blue Left side is full of oxygen and is red Label the main structures of the heart. The Heart
