1 New York State Pre-Event Experience
11/28/2019

2 Overview NYS approach to smallpox pre-event initiative was sufficiently different from the CDC model that we developed our own Smallpox Pre-Event System (NYS PVS). The current NYS PVS is not a part of the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS). 11/28/2019

3 Presentation Objectives
Why NYS choose to develop it’s own PVS Why the New York State Immunization Information System (NYSIIS) wasn’t used Problems Suggestions 11/28/2019

4 Why NYS Developed it’s Own PVS
Different Clinic Model Different Data Requirements Additional NYS Requirements 11/28/2019

5 Clinic Model Differences
CDC: Only a few clinic sites NYS planned on many clinic CDC: Keep track of not vaccinated NYS only wanted to know who was vaccinated CDC: Only one vial open per clinic NYS clinics could have more than one vial open   11/28/2019

6 Data Requirement Differences
CDC: Preferred getting identifying info NYS wanted to keep it in the state CDC: Batches are reported with shots info NYS for inventory keep track of inactive, active, expired, spoiled CDC: Consent NYS had it’s own consent 11/28/2019

7 Additional NYS Requirements
Vaccine's to complete Vaccination Diary PHRT had to be listed on NYS Communications Directory Section C of Medical History Form used as vaccination record Selective access to data   11/28/2019

8 Why Registry wasn’t used
Technical Addition PVS requirements don’t fit registry functionality   Time Wasn’t time to fully develop within the existing registry design. Politically Wanted to restrict access to PVS data 11/28/2019

9 Problems Information from different CDC groups
I was not part of NYS initial planning for BT Neither CDC or projects had enough time CDC Required Forms couldn’t be modified Information from different CDC groups Forms Education / Training PVS Non-PVS Adverse Event Worksheet VAERS 11/28/2019

10 Suggestions No more “one-trick ponies”
