What is it? Theatre = The activity or profession of acting in, producing, directing, or writing plays Theater = a building or outdoor area in which plays and other dramatic performances are given THEATRE IS THE ART, THEATER IS THE SPACE Drama = a play for theater, radio, or television ^This class is not.

New year, new you! Theatre class = one of the most exciting choices at KMS! There is so much to learn – about personal self-confidence, communication skills, acting, live performance, technical theatre, costuming, lighting design, set design, directing, theatre history, script- writing, and musical theatre. That’s a lot!

Theatre educates you for life!
REAL LIFE SKILLS: how to present and express yourself professionally in public; how to interact with different personalities in various scenarios; AND we work on being culturally intelligent and socially competent.

What will Theatre class look like?
Daily bell work a chance for you to think, write and discuss Theatre history Improvisation Acting and articulation exercises There will be scenes and monologues, poetry and lyrics to learn. There will be required memorization Assessments may be written and will also include live or in-class and public performances.

Stage and Audience Etiquette Pantomime Monologues and Duo Scenes Dramatic Structure Character Development Scene Writing Technical Theatre and Design

TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEATRE CLASS…
You need a great positive attitude, team spirit, excellent behavior, a desire to perform, willingness to participate, and the maturity to listen. You will be in front of the class in small groups, with partners, and on your own. This is a requirement of the class.

Expectations Students are here to learn about theatre (performance and technical) and about themselves. Students will step outside of their comfort zone. Students will make good choices in excellent behavior and effort. Students will complete the required written work. Students will respect each other and the teacher! Students will be strong, be smart, and grow!

Outcomes Students will improve communication and expression skills.
Students will increase verbal and physical presentation skills. Students will grow in positive self-esteem. Students will experience theatre in many forms. Students will be challenged!

This class is not… A place to goof off
A class where we “just watch videos” A time for only games A room in which you can eat or drink anything other than water
