What do you remember seeing on our walk in our local area on Let’s Count! Day? What did we find out about areas changing over time? For example, how much has Port Talbot changed since 1949? Sue: I’m hoping that I can use this image, which is from WalesOnline: I’m asking for their permission! I’ve found it quite hard to find copyright-free images of ‘then’ and ‘now’ places in Wales! (It was also hard for England – the Bank of England was about the only one!)

In today’s lesson we are going to: Create a model or painting of our local area. Plot the artworks onto our map to create a large 3D map of our area, which can show how things have changed over time We can upload our artwork onto the Let’s Count! website – and we might even win a prize!

Year 6 Let’s Count our Local Area, Part 2 On our walk, we gathered data about objects in our local area: What ratio facts can we create using the data we collected on our walk? What did we count the most? What did we count the least?

Year 6 We can now compare quantities, including looking at ratio and proportion. For example: If for every one 1 bus we saw 6 cars, the ratio is: 1 bus to 6 cars (1:6) How many cars would we have seen if we saw 5 buses? The proportion of vehicles we saw: Bus: 1 in 7 Cars: 6 in 7
