3 Setting: The time and place of a story
Setting: The time and place of a story. *This is where the action takes place. Frozen takes place in Arendelle, Norway. The movie, Hidden Figures, takes place during the 1960s. Just like movies, books can have multiple settings. The setting is established in the first part of the novel or short story. Think about your independent reading book. What is the setting? 4 Characters The individuals that perform the action and develop or move the plot forward. All stories have a protagonist or main character. The protagonist has an enemy or antagonist. The protagonist is trying to resolve the problem or conflict, while the antagonist is trying to get in his way. Who is the protagonist in your independent reading book? Antagonist? Theme is not a topic or one word; theme is expressed in a sentence. Examples: Sometimes you have to face your fears in order to change your life. Hard work yields good rewards. Theme
