What do we need to compare to prove that two triangles are similar? Angles How many pairs of angles do we need to compare in two triangles to prove that they are similar? 2 pairs, because if two of the angles are the same, the third must be the same also (since the angles in each triangle add to πŸπŸ–πŸŽΒ°). ? ? 16 Scaling areas and volumes
A Savvy-Triangle is enlarged by a scale factor of 3 to form a Yusutriangle. 2cm ? 6cm 3cm ? 9cm ? Area = 3cm2 Area = 27cm2 ? Length increased by a factor of 3 ? We can see that if the length increases by a scale factor π‘˜, the area increases by this squared, i.e. π‘˜ 2 . Area increased by a factor of 9 ?

For area, the scale factor is squared. For volume, the scale factor is cubed. Example: A shape X is enlarged by a scale factor of 5 to produce a shape Y. The area of shape X is 3m2.
