1 7th Grade Book Challenge
#ARNOMORE #STILLREADING #24BOOKS

2 Welcome to the 7th grade book challenge
Welcome to the 7th grade book challenge! Throughout the school year you are expected to read at least 24 books. If you already know you will read at least 24 books, I would like you to set a different challenge goal.

3 How Are Books Counted? Books with pages count as 1 book. Books with pages count 2 books. Books with 450+ pages count as 3 books . Books with more than 800 pages - see Mrs. Anderson! Graphic novels count as ¼, ½, or 1 whole book depending on the book - see Mrs. Anderson! Audiobooks count as 1 book.

4 Further Details: 10 of the books must be actual chapter books. This is meant to push you as a reader. If 24 is too simple a goal for you, please set a higher goal. My goal will be 24 books also!

5 If You Are Completing a Challenge Goal:
If reading 24 books is no big deal to you, then I would like you to set a different challenge goal. This can be a quantity goal, or it could be one that you come up with. Examples include: Reading longer books than you normally do. If so, what is your typical range of pages? Trying new genres. If so, which? Trying new formats of books. If so, which? Reading books with more challenging vocabulary. Your idea - see Mrs. Anderson!

6 Other Details: You pick the books you want to read. You have 4 goals before the end of the year: 6 books by October 11th 12 books by December 18th 6 books by March 6th 12 books by May 22nd You are only competing against yourself as a reader (and Mrs. Anderson, if you want).

7 Throughout the week, we will spend class time reading and completing book conferences and other activities. With the Book Challenge Record Sheet, you will chart the book and page number you are on each week. I will occasionally stamp this. I will be holding book conferences with every student. We will sit, chat about your book, and explore it together.

8 If you start a book and you realize you don’t like it, close it, apologize to it, and choose a new book. Don’t worry, someone else will read it.

9 “It usually helps me write by reading — somehow the reading gear in your head turns the writing gear.” -Steven Wright

10 Let’s taste some books, dive into another world, and become better readers and writers.
