Component 1 question paper : Sgrùdadh
(30 marks) 15 marks for one unseen non-fiction text 15 marks for one unseen fiction text questions focus on analysis and evaluation

Component 2 question paper : Litreachas agus Sgrìobhadh:
Section 1: Literature - Candidates write an essay on aspects of a literary text studied. Section 2: Writing - Candidates write an essay in Gaelic from a list of eight essay titles. total 40 marks (40%/20 marks for each section) 1 hour 40 minutes

Component 3 question paper: Eadar-theangachadh
15 marks out of a total of 115 marks for the course assessment candidates translate one written non-fiction English text into written Gaelic focus on technically accurate language and replicating tone and impact, as appropriate to genre 30 minutes glossary provided for any unusual terms

Component 3 – Eadar-theangachadh
The translation will be marked on technical accuracy, idiomatic use of language and faithfulness to the tone and register of the original text. Part 1 First mark the candidate’s translation based on technical accuracy and idiomatic use of language, awarding 2, 1 or 0 marks for each sense unit, according to the tables below. The sense unit is translated accurately and idiomatically with no significant omissions or technical errors. 2 The translation is accurate, but may contain some technical errors and/or omissions or mistranslations, but which does not distort the meaning significantly. (See Notes for each sense unit for examples of these). OR The translation is accurate but the Gaelic is not idiomatic. 1 There are a number of missing details. AND/OR There are a number of technical errors which obscure the meaning at first reading.

Component 3– Eadar-theangachadh
Part 2 Secondly, assess the candidate’s translation holistically, awarding 3, 2, 1 or 0 marks for each sense unit, according to the table below. The translation flows from beginning to end and reflects the original text’s purpose, tone and register and would have the same effect on the intended audience. 3 The translation largely reflects the original text’s purpose, tone and register and would have the same effect on the intended audience, but has one or two areas where this is not the case. 2 The translation flows but does not reflect the original text’s purpose, tone and/or register and may not have the same effect on the intended audience. OR The translation reflects the original text’s purpose, tone and register, but it lacks coherence and/or would have the same effect on the intended audience. 1 The translation lacks coherence and does not reflect the original text’s purpose, tone and register and would not have the same effect on the intended audience.
