Sit at your number - Copy the agenda. Pick up a copy of the guided notes from the back of the room. We will keep this in the Keepers Section.Go to the workroom and get a computer with your number. Check the number when you get it off of the cart. Go to the blog and click on your class to take notes today. Every time you incorporate evidence, you should have four main components. This is the C – Citing Evidence part of the RACES format. transition lead-in evidence/quote MLA citation Academic English Classes use a standard format for citing evidence called MLA (Modern Language Association) You will use MLA citation for all of your English Classes. Vary your transition words. Do not use For Example each time.

MLA Citation Use MLA in-text citation at the end of your quote This citation must include the author’s last name and the page Number (Salinas 16). NO “pg” or “p.” (Salinas 16). Lead- ins Lead – ins introduce and give background for your evidence. Avoid using the author says or tells. Instead use words like writes , explains, comments, maintains, suggests, states, demonstrates, implies, claims, reveals

Evidence – Direct Quote Make sure your evidence is RELEVANT and proves your main idea/topic. It should prove your answer for the prompt is correct. Do not change any words when you copy a direct quote. The quotation marks show that it is not your writing. A direct quote should be copied word for word from the text. Evidence should be an entire sentence from the text, but no more than two (consecutive) sentences. No ellipses (…) allowed For evidence that is already in quotes (dialogue), use double quotations around the outside to show you are quoting a part of the text, and single quotations around the dialogue. Original: He cleared his throat and continued. “This year the Board has decided to charge fifteen dollars, which still won’t cover the complete cost of the jacket.” Example:“He cleared his throat and continued. ‘This year the Board has decided to charge fifteen dollars, which still won’t cover the complete cost of the jacket.”’
